Speakers
Wharfedale Linton XP2
These were the first (proper) pair of speakers I ever owned, they were
gifted to me by my Grandad.
These speakers were originally released at some point during the 1970's
and they still sound great 50+ years later.
They are quite big speakers and it was a struggle fitting them onto my
desk but they sounded great so no complaints.
Im no audiophile so dont expect any in depth reviews on any of the
speakers I mention, my ears are not good enough for that.
Tannoy 603
These speakers were also gifted to me by my Grandad, they are quite a
bit smaller than the XP2's and fit much more nicely on my desk. Although
both speakers sound great, I feel like the Tannoy's sound better for
the music that I listen to (electronic). I can't put my finger on it,
but there is just something about them that just sounds better.
The only issue I have with the 603's is that one of the speakers came
with a bad bass driver. There is a slight rattling that happens under
heavy bass tunes and it's a bit annoying. This speaker is also a little
quieter than the other one, which could be to do with the amp I suppose.
But anyway at some point I will need to get a new bass driver.
I will probably look into getting some bigger Tannoy's in the future
since these sound so great, a tune that really sold them to me was
'Makai - Rectifier' this tune goes IN on these.
Update 16th April 2025
A few days ago I ordered a new bass driver for my 603's and it arrived
today. It cost me £30 from Ebay, not terrible but not great either. I
installed the new driver, it took about 4 minutes and most of that was
screwing and unscrewing, it was a very easy repair and now both speakers
sound great!
