Atmospheric Jungle

I was just listening to the "Points In Time 006" CD released under Good Looking Records in 1999 and it got me thinking about one of my favourite genres/sub-genres of music, Atmospheric Jungle.

I discovered this sub-genre many years ago when I was around 14/15 years old, and ever since I have been in love with the vibe the music brings. I remember I used to sit in my room late at night listening to different tunes by Seba, LTJ Bukem, Peshay, Mouly and many others.

For me, there is nothing else like it, the music just makes you feel at peace, whatever may be happening, usually I play these tunes late at night in my room, or when im driving home late at night and just vibing. The combinations of fast drums, euphoric pads and nice bass just makes the tunes perfect.

There was a bit of a resurrection of the sub-genre in the early 2020's with a popular YouTube video called Peshay Studio Set 1996. The video consists of 90 minutes of some of the best Atmospheric Jungle tunes with a slideshow of 90's CGi/Fruitger Aero images over the top of it which in my opinion really capture the vibe the music brings. There are a few other videos like this that are less well known such as Mouly - Studio Set (1995) which is again 90 minutes of some of the best Atmospheric Jungle tunes with the early CGI slideshow over it (and features one of my favourite tunes Tango - Spellbound).

If you like this sort of music, go and check out the Good Looking Records - Points In Time series of CD's and vinyl. I own all of the CD's because they are just so great, around 8 - 10 of some of the best releases in the genre per CD, in full length and great quality. The vinyl's are pretty pricey but the CD's can be found brand new and sealed on Ebay for cheap even though they are from 1999 - 2000. My favourite entries are 005, 006 008.

Outside of just GLR Points In Time here are some other releases with Discogs links to some of the best in the genre:

There are many, many more tunes which could fit the bill but I want to keep it conscise.
