There are no good laptops anymore
Rant Incoming!
So my ThinkPad T500 is showing its age a little bit as of recently,
mainly in web browsing. It gets quite hot, and can get quite slow on
bloated sites like YouTube. I am also very concerned about the hinges
going, which killed my last T500, so I have been in the market for a new
laptop.
I was initially looking at some newer ThinkPads like the X201, but
then I thought, I have had these machines before, I have basically
owned all the major ThinkPad models pre T430, and I know if the T500
is slow they will also be slow.
So I was expanding my horizons, looking at Panasonic Lets Notes, Dell
Latitudes, HP Elitebooks, etc. But all of these laptops have major flaws
, usually one of the following:
- They have soldered components (I can just about cope with a soldered CPU)
- They are massive and ugly
- No trackpoint (not the end of the world but is highly annoying)
- No optical drive and lack of ports in general
- Shitty keyboards (this basically goes for every single modern laptop)
My T500 has replacable components, a trackpoint, an optical drive, all the ports you would ever need, a great keyboard, and it is pretty big but its sleek. Why is it so difficult to make a laptop with modern hardware like this?
